Our department was established in 1942 as Chesnee Mill fire department charged with fire protection of the mill and the surrounding mill village. Later as our district boundaries grew to encompass areas outside the mill village governing body decided to change the departments name to Chesnee Community. In 2003 we assumed sole fire protection to the city of Chesnee with that addidtion we now provde fire protection to 7,100 residents in 20 square miles. We provide fire suppression, rescue, medical, and fire prevention services with 45 members operating out of 2 stations. We provide automatic aid to Mayo FD on all fire related calls. We provide automatic aid to Cooley Springs - Fingerville to all structural related calls. We also provide automatic aid to Cherokee county departments on all structural related call within a 15 square mile district.
